Abstrak

In the context of Indonesia's rich and complex diversity, public theology needs to be reconstructed as a theology responsive to society's social, cultural, and religious realities. The aim of this research is to offer an Indonesian-facing public theology model rooted in the values of friendship and interfaith dialogue. This research uses a qualitative approach, focusing on a literature review and theological analysis, and draws on the narrative of John 4:5–26 as a framework for reflection. This research states that public theology relevant to the Indonesian context must be built on the principles of sincerity in friendship and spiritual courage to cross boundaries. The research results show that Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan Woman at Jacob's Well can serve as a metaphor for an inclusive, dialogical, and transformative public theology. In conclusion, Indonesian public theology is a practice of friendship that arises from real relationships in public spaces, whether carried out by the church as a community or by individual Christians. As a recommendation, churches in Indonesia are encouraged to make interfaith friendship the foundation of their theological and social engagement in society.
