Teologi Adopsi dalam Rekonstruksi Identitas Rohani di tengah Mentalitas Budaya: Analisis Historis-Gramatikal Roma 8:15–17

Studies on Romans 8:15–17 in the Indonesian context frequently fall into one of two problematic poles: an experiential subjectivism that detaches itself from Scripture's textual meaning or a rigid academic exegesis that lacks pastoral and transformative force. This text is often read without considering the cultural mentalities of hierarchy, nrimo, and ewuh pakewuh that shape how Indonesian believers relate to God and understand themselves. This article exegetes Romans 8:15–17 using Walter C. Kaiser Jr.'s historical-grammatical framework, comprising contextual, syntactical, verbal, theological, and homiletical analysis, to establish the single unifying meaning of the text: the Holy Spirit transfers believers from the domain of slavery (???????) into adoption as God's children (????????), confirms that identity through inner testimony, and directs them toward glory through participation in Christ's sufferings. The article offers a systematic integration of technical exegesis and Indonesian contextual theology, reading the themes of adoption, the Spirit's witness, and shared inheritance as both a prophetic critique of and a theological redemption for these three cultural mentalities.
Abstrak
Studi Roma 8:15–17 dalam konteks Indonesia kerap terjebak pada dua kutub: subjektivisme pengalaman rohani yang melepaskan diri dari teks, atau eksegesis akademis yang kaku dan tidak bertransformasi pastoral. Teks ini pun jarang dibaca dalam ketegangan dengan mentalitas hierarkis, nrimo, dan ewuh pakewuh yang nyata membentuk cara jemaat berelasi dengan Allah dan diri mereka. Artikel ini mengeksegesis Roma 8:15–17 menggunakan kerangka historis-gramatikal Walter C. Kaiser Jr., yakni analisis kontekstual, sintaksis, verbal, teologis, dan homiletis, untuk merumuskan makna tunggal teks: Roh Kudus mengangkat orang percaya dari domain perbudakan (???????) ke dalam pengangkatan sebagai anak Allah (????????), meneguhkan identitas itu melalui kesaksian batin, dan menuntun mereka menuju kemuliaan melalui partisipasi dalam penderitaan Kristus. Artikel ini menawarkan integrasi sistematis antara eksegesis teknis dan teologi kontekstual Indonesia, di mana tema adopsi, kesaksian Roh, dan warisan kemuliaan dibaca sebagai kritik profetis sekaligus penebusan atas ketiga mentalitas budaya tersebut.
