Abstrak

Christian religious education (CRE) in Indonesia still tends to be teacher-centered, limiting students' active engagement and deeper spiritual formation. This article examines the heutagogy learning approach as a strategy to improve student learning outcomes in CRE. Using a systematic literature review, this study analyzes relevant sources to explore the theoretical foundations of heutagogy and its applicability in the CRE context. The findings indicate that heutagogy as a self-determined learning approach empowers students to set their own learning goals, select learning materials, and evaluate their own progress. When applied in CRE, this approach fosters critical thinking, spiritual reflection, and the practical application of Christian values in daily life. Unlike pedagogy and andragogy, heutagogy positions students as the primary agents of learning, while teachers serve as facilitators. This approach has significant potential to enhance cognitive, affective, and spiritual learning outcomes among Christian students in formal educational settings.
